The Future of the Game
Junior & Amateur Programs

The experiences, relationships, and knowledge I have attained in over 40 years of golf have been beneficial personally and professionally.  It is the responsibility of the PGA Professional to promote the future of the game. I want to show my appreciation by helping golfers of all levels reach their potential both on and off the golf course. Outings, public speaking engagements, Pro-Ams, “Golf Tips from the Tour” along with our website, www.JLLewisGolfTips.com, and monthly newsletters which include articles related to golf, are all excellent avenues with which we share this information with you to promote the game. – J.L. Lewis

Our interest is in all children learning the proper fundamentals and life skills that will take them forward in a positive direction toward their goals in golf and life.  The information in the Pocket Pro edition of Golf Tips from the Tour will give each child an outstanding head start in the game.  They will receive the knowledge that 40 years of playing, teaching, and competition can give them.  If you are interested in your child or organization having this information at their fingertips, here are some methods of delivery:

Avenues to facilitate this mission:

  • Purchase the Pocket Pro and work on the fundamentals and techniques with your child so that they will have a good grasp of proper instruction from the start.

  • Donate and Sponsor the “Pocket Pro” for each child in your local program.

  • Help organize an outing with the First Tee Program in your area.

  • Have J.L. give a clinic or golf outing to share his experiences and inspire these young golfers to attain greatness!

A child born with the aptitude to perform at a high level in a sport possesses a true gift that should be developed.  All children, whether they have natural ability or simply show interest in the game can become good at sports when amply nurtured to enhance the further development of their skills. I am often asked, “What should I do with my son or daughter to help them become better golfers?” The following suggestions come from a lifetime of experiences that I believe will help juniors at all ages to reach their golf potential when they maintain a positive attitude and good work ethic.  ..Read more

The First Tee

The First Tee Program is a great way to get your child a fundamentally sound start in golf and life.  The First Tee of America’s original founding partner organizations are the PGA of America, LPGA, PGA TOUR, Augusta National Golf Club, and USGA. The national First Tee program is involved in several golf events hosted by their founding partners, including the Valero Texas Open and the HP Byron Nelson Championship. Overall, 2,000,000 children worldwide have been touched in some way by the program!  The First Tee’s nine core values are integrity, sportsmanship, courtesy, confidence, honesty, perseverance, judgment, responsibility and respect. These values are taught through the game of golf.

"Golf is the Game, Life is the Lesson"

By: Sherry Lewis

May 2009

“The First Tee program teaches children that every round of golf starts and ends with a strong hand shake.  Teaching a young person how to look someone in the eye and introduce themselves while giving a firm handshake teaches the value of confidence.  The program is about educating children to become better golfers while they learn life values and become better citizens.” Read more..
